Why do we love this story–Ebenezer Scrooge’s transformation from miser and misanthrope to lover of all men and Christmas–as we do?
Storyteller John Granger believes “A Christmas Carol” works at four levels and that its most profound meanings are delivered by the careful, circular sequencing of the symbols in the tale’s five chapters or ‘staves.’ Expect to be surprised and delighted by elements of Dickens’ storytelling genius you never knew in this fun Advent season presentation that opens up the world’s most famous and beloved short story.
Professor John Granger writes and speaks on the intersection of literature, philosophy, faith and culture. He’s published articles in Touchstone, been a keynote and featured speaker at fan conferences and major universities, and is the author and editor of seven books that have sold more than 100,000 copies.

Some of you may know Dr. John Granger as the Hogwarts Professor. He's a lead contributor to Mugglenet's "Mugglenet Academia" podcast and has written many books on the series, including "The Deathly Hallows Lectures," "How Harry Cast his Spell," "Harry Potter’s Bookshelf: The Great Books Behind the Hogwarts Adventures," among others. On his blog (http://www.hogwartsprofessor.com/) Dr. Granger also writes about Twilight, the Hunger Games, and other popular literature. NOTE: This event is part my church's Advent celebration, but should be considered it's own thing. Dr. Granger's talk is open to the public, and all are welcome, no religious beliefs required :) And don't worry -there will be no proselytizing either. This is just a lecture.

We will meet just inside the main doors of the church so that we can all sit together. Be sure to RSVP to his second talk on Saturday as well!
