Networked Place

Join us on October 7th for a night of networked places. OK. The theme is vague but the line-up is already stellar, with more focus on theme and more speakers to come! Follow the conversation at #geonyc for the latest updates.

OUR SPEAKERS

Abhinav Sharma (@abhinavsharma) is an engineer at Facebook working on the places and geo datasets. He has worked on the geocoding and reverse geocoding infrastructure at Facebook. He'll be talking about...well, maybe geocoding.

Arlene Ducao (@arlduc) is a Co-PI at The DuKode Studio in Brooklyn and a Research Affiliate at MIT Media Lab. Her projects examine the environment through creative computing. She and her business partner Ilias Koen will be talking about OpenIR and MindRider: The Brain Reading Helmet. And apparently she also like chicken pie.

Colin Reilly is the Director of GIS/mapping at NYC DoITT and a lecturer at Montclair State. Colin along with Rudy Lopez, the Director of Geographic Systems at the NYC Department of City Planning. will be talking about the Geoclient API (geocoding service) the City recently ported to the cloud that is available through the NYC Developer Portal. His daughter’s band features him in many of their lyrics…often not too flattering.

THE SCHEDULE

6:30PM: doors, beer, pizza, people, etc
7:00PM: presentations followed by Q&A
8:30PM: geo-celebrations

ETC

We'll also do a run through of the latest and greatest in the geo news as well as announce what's on the horizon.  If you have anything you'd like to add to the news or announcement please don't hesitate to contact us.  And you can always keep track of the conversation on twitter at#geonyc!!

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the interest in the NY Transit Tech Meetup. A couple people said they wanted to talk about it after but didn't get the chance. The group is at http://www.meetup.com/NY-Transit-Tech-Meetup/. It's just starting, and since I'm an iOS developer with that perspective, other perspectives, suggestions, comments are especially welcome.

Great topics and capable presenters. I also liked that the NYC DCP has taken steps to actually release a geocoding client for the city's streets and locations. Way to go! :)

Hi, is there anyway I can get in as I see meetup is full?

    October 7, 2013

    • Maxim R.

Michael, I think RSVP is already closed, and since this takes place at facebook's offices, building security is pretty strict about who's allowed in...I personally wouldn't go without explicit ack from the group's organizers unless you don't mind potentially wasting your time on travel.

    • alyssa w.

Thanks all -- Hi Michael. I am not sure we will be able to accommodate late additions to the security list. We'll definitely be posting the presentations and you can follow us on twitter at #geonyc. Sign up early for the next one! Promise it will be good.

Is anyone who RVSPed not going?!
The meetup is full and attending it means a lot to me.

Noticed that the attendants number decreased over the weekend. Short message from you can help me very much.
    Thanks in advanced!
