July Web Design Meetup

Anyone interested in web design or development can attend: whether you're a website owner, a full or part-time designer or developer, or a student. We're meeting at the Pierce County Library again since they have a large meeting room and free wireless access. Please RSVP if you plan to attend.

Agenda I'm sure we'll have a great helping of our normal, free-form discussion, but we're also planning to have a few highlight presentations including:

In both cases, we'll be installing on a local development machine (most likely my laptop), which runs Linux. If you'd like to bring a laptop and follow along or get help installing on your OS of choice, we'll be happy to help out. In both cases, we'll talking a bit about the general functionality, how to extend with plugins, using and modifying themes, and any questions. If you're running Ubuntu Linux, you may want to check out this tutorial on configuring a local webserver. If you're using Windows or Mac, you might want to check out XXAMP, an easy way to setup a local development server.

Feel free to bring: - laptop if you have one - questions, tips, rants & problems - examples of sites you're working on or like - resources to share with others - links, book reviews, etcetera

Great meeting! We had four new members, presentations on WordPress and Drupal, and some terrific discussion. The only downside was that we ran short on time, but we'll pick it up again next month. :)

Absolutely fabulous. Eric, the organizer, was highly intelligent and personable. The other members were great too! I will definitely go to future meetings.

I now see the value in Wordpress and how it can be used for a client's website. I also understand now how a php file works to call up all other files used for a website.

We didn't have much time for the Drupal tutorial, but I did find out that it is a better platform (less tables) to use than Joomla. Looking forward to the continuation at the next meeting.

    Hey Missie,

You can post your possible topics in the mailing list (email: [masked]) or send them to me if you like.

I can't wait! I was thinking of using WordPress for one of my sites...

And I have a possible future topic I'd like to discuss. Who should I send it to for a possible future meetup?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
