PHP and MVC Class: Build A Better Website

Details
PHP is the language behind the popular blog platform WordPress, as well as competitors like Drupal and Joomla!. You'll also find PHP in contact forms, shopping cart platforms, and interacting with MySQL databases.
In this class, we'll introduce you to both PHP and the MVC (Model View Controller) framework, an important tool for developers of PHP and beyond. We'll also cover database basics, MySQL, and web security.
The class will meet Thursday, September 12th from 7-9 pm and continue to meet through October 17th (a six-week course in all). (Due to the restrictions of Meetup's registration, we can't schedule multi-day events, so keep in mind that this Meetup event serves as registration for the entire class.)
Class Preparation and Prerequisites
An understanding of basic programming concepts (arrays, for loops, conditional statements) before taking this class is assumed. If you have not previously taken a Girl Develop It programming class, try starting with Newbie JavaScript first!
Familiarity with HTML and CSS is also assumed for this class - you don't need to be an expert, but a basic understanding of tags, attributes and CSS are needed to fully participate. If you do not have an understanding of how to write and build a web page using HTML and CSS please consider taking our Newbie HTML/CSS offering first.
Students are asked to bring their personal laptops to use if they have one. (Sometimes work laptops have limitations). If you do not have access to a laptop please contact us before the first class.
We also offer possible scholarships for students for whom the class fee is an impediment. Please contact the group organizer (Kim, kim@girldevelopit.com) for details.
