GDI Hack Night w/ Special Guest

Details

Bring your all your projects, ideas and questions for a night hanging out and working with other coders. Any language, niche or skill level (including absolute beginners!) is welcome. We’ll have some food and drinks around as well.

While you munch on your dinner, we will have a special guest talk about FEAR and how it can hold us back from being the best version of ourselves. Aly Fluckey is a junior Rails developer currently working for Neo in Columbus. In early 2012, Aly started her career as a software developer by moving away from Iowa to take a job as COBOL developer for Nationwide Insurance. Shortly after that, she discovered Ruby and the community that comes with it and knew she would never be the same. Here is a preview of what she will talk about at this month's Hack Night:

"When I made the move from Iowa to Ohio for my job with Nationwide, a lot of people told me that they could never see themselves taking such a risk, and that confused me. I started asking myself: What does risk mean to us, why are we afraid of it and how does that fear hold us back? This talk looks to answer some of those questions, as well as the importance of taking risks in pursuit of successful, happy lives."
