Start to write Glassware for your Google Glass! This workshop is tailored for beginners. Working knowledge of Java and Android development is expected although anyone wanting to learn how Glassware is developed are also welcome. This session will walk you through sample applications provided by the Glass Team, and by the end of the session, you should have both working Java Mirror Glassware as well as GDK Glassware.

Attendees will need to prepare your laptops with SDK and tools. Please follow detailed instructions in the Prerequisites section.

We request owners of Glass to be willing to share your device with others. This is a hands-on workshop so please bring your laptop and Google Glass. We will have some loaner Glasses but expect to share for those who don't have one. Expect up to 4 attendees per Glass.

Prerequisites MacOS, Windows 7 or Linux laptop
Java 1.6
Any IDE or text editor
Command-line/terminal
A Google account (or a Google Apps account, for OAuth)
Download quickstart and import into IDE (if using an IDE)
Install Maven
Test run mvn install and mvn jetty:run from the command line in the project directory, make sure they don't crash or give errors
Download and Install Android ADT at http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/bundle.html

Getting Started (In the presentation)

Download and install credentials (will be given during the presentation)

mvn install then mvn jetty:run

Browse to localhost:8080

About the Instructors

E. John Feig
Currently working for TiKL, Inc. as an Android developer, John is responsible for code that gets shipped to tens of millions of users. He gets to do lots of fun stuff at TiKL, like writing clients for new platforms from scratch, playing with Google Glass and touching the full stack. He has worked on the Android client, some of the Java servers, the in-development web client, a bit of PhotoShop, as well as keeping up with TiKL's social media presence. Here are some other things of note about John:

Lawrence Wong
Lawrence is VP Mobile at Pcsso.
He is an early adopter of Android and Google Glass. He has been using Google Glass to develop Glassware and has presented on Google Glass in three continents and 18 cities. Previously, he was a Tech Lead for Enterprise Web Applications at KPIT, a Mobile Software Developer at T-Mobile and startups. He organizes Smart Glass Developers and Designers Group, as well as GDG East Bay
