Hiking in Whiting Ranch - Serrano and Sleepy Hollow Trails.

Details

  • Please note the meetup location is a business address next to the Serrano Trail entrance. We will park on Da Vinci and start our hike from there. For those who hake hiked Borrego/Red Rock with me, this is about a mile south down Portola. The Meetup map provided is very accurate. The group will form up at the corner of Portola and Pauling.

This is another new hike for the group, and one I have been thinking about doing all year. The hike itself will be about 5 miles in duration and is not overly difficult.

Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park encompasses approximately 3,000 acres of riparian and oak woodland canyons, rolling grassland hills and steep slopes of coastal sage scrub and chaparral. The park is highlighted by scenic rock formations, including the beautiful Red Rock Canyon. There are three intermittent streams: Borrego, Serrano and Aliso Creek meandering through the park, each hosting an abundance of wildlife. Remnants of the former cattle ranching days can be seen throughout the park.

Please make sure you bring water and sun protection for the hike. The current weather forecast calls for a nice hiking morning, but that can also change and get warmer.

Dogs are not permitted on these trails.

The group steps off at 8:40. If you are late I apologize in advance for leaving you behind.

Get Out There, Orange County - Let's go explore another trail we drive past all the time.
