Graduate students are busy, but they still want a (diverse) social life!
Our friend Honda from Tokyo began this group in 2008. He recognized that, because we are so busy, it is hard to meet new people outside of our own academic programs. Many previous members are looking for other social opportunities outside of our academic programs, outside of our respective graduate student organizations and even our different institutions in the region.
My plan is not too different from Honda's. I will organize different brunches and dinners, and we can just introduce ourselves and chat a bit, enjoy some good food and conversation, etc. and take the events where they will. These will not be large, involved parties, but simply brief, casual social occasions to meet new people and be stimulated by learning what others do.
This group is open to prospective and former grad students from ANY school, and also their friends. Membership is free and it just takes a few minutes to register your email at meetup.com. I promise that you will not get countless mass-emails, but only a few notices per month.
