September Meetups and Big Events on the Calendar

From: Rex and Lisa B.

September meetups and events have been posted.  We'll be trying a new meetup site at the dam at Barton Springs pool on Sunday the 11th.  There is a leashless area on the other side of the dam where the dogs can go swimming (and you can too).  There is a free parking lot off Robert E. Lee street.  Walk over the bridge and turn left on the path back toward the dam.  Then on Saturday the 17th we'll try Red Bud Isle again.  We had a good turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy the park and the water as well even though the parking is challenging.  Note both meetups will begin at 9:00 am.  Once the weather turns cooler we'll go back to our regular meetup times.

Now for the big events on September 23rd and 25th.  PAWS of Austin is sponsoring once again Puppy Mill Awareness Day(PMAD) in Texas.  Some of you may have attended last year at Scholz's Garden downtown. Unfortunately we had rain that day (what's rain?) that hampered attendance. But this year, the event will be HUGE and will be held at the famous Backyard music venue in Bee Cave.  The new Backyard location is off of Hwy 620 in Bee Cave near Hwy 71 and the old location. This event is designed to raise awareness of the cruelties that occur in puppy mills.  In conjunction with this event, there will be a VIP Reception at the Westin Hotel in the Domain on Friday night the 23rd. There will be celebrities and guest speakers, and a live and silent auction. Tickets are only $25.00 and all proceeds from the tickets and auction will go to support  PAWS in their efforts at puppy mill raids and rescues. On Sunday the 25th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, The Backyard will host Puppy Mill Awareness Day.  Beside celebrities and guest speakers, there will be live music (it is The Backyard, of course!), children's activities, 40 vendor and rescue booths, and a puppy mill survivor's parade.  It is a very family friendly event and you are definitely encouraged to bring the furkids on leash.  And it's FREE. I hope we can have a big turnout at both the Friday night and Sunday events.  Our own Courtney Leigh with PAWS has put forth tremendous effort in organizing both events so let's all come out and support this worthwhile cause.

Be sure and encourage all your friends and family to attend both events.  Go to Facebook and like both events.  Go to our Home Page and read more information on each event and please RSVP.  There are links to the events and you can print out the flyer for PMAD and pass it around to spread the word. Thanks for your support of these events and thanks to PAWS of Austin for the great work they do!
