As many of you know, ANNA KARENINA is really a daunting book in size and scope. Many of our members have suggested that with just a little more time they would be more prepared to discuss the book and so you will see that Anna is scheduled as our April selection. We have CANCELLED the meeting for March 23. I hope this does not inconvenience anyone and we look forward to having a great turnout in April.
HOWEVER, the winner of the poll was "A Sun Also Rises" and since we cancelled the meeting on 23rd, we've arranged to hold a JOINT MEETING on Sunday, MARCH 28 with the Hemingway Book Club. Ted, the Hemingway organizer will be leading the discussion but we hope you can attend at the Boxcar Lounge on Ave B.
Finally, we will be reading Madame Bovary in May, and Heart of Darkness in June. July and Aug dates are scheduled with selections to follow. I will POST A NEW POLL so PLEASE VOTE when you have a chance, even if you already voted.
One more thing, about our MEETING LOCATION. For now, we continue to plan our meeting for McNally Jackson bookstore however the timing is sometimes a problem for us and so we MAY NEED TO relocate our meeting. We are looking for SUGGESTIONS FOR A VENUE so please email Jason or me when you can with ideas.
Sorry for the lengthiness of the message but so much is going on. Thanks for your patience, active involvement and for contributing to great discussions!
This club's goal is to have great discussions on renowned works in both fiction and non-fiction. This would include great works of literature, history, autobiographies, biographies, plays etc. Great books and great discussions are our goal; books that profoundly explore human nature. Especially for fiction it would be great to hear from people who have read the book at different phases of their lives and to hear how their opinions of the book have changed. We will have monthly meeting with most books picked a couple months in advance. However, if we all agee, we can plan even farther out for some really challenging books. As for location I am looking for a regular spot but hope that if the club develops a core group of people we can have more varied and interesting meetup locations to discuss the books such as restaurants, museums, parks etc.
