Tribute to GreenDrinks movement

*Developed for people of all backgrounds and levels of experience.Book Club Invitation: 17:30-18:30
Welcome to Narratives of Nature, a space to gather and explore our relationship to the environment through reading and discussion. Through a blend of different genres, spanning fiction and non-fiction, we will delve into diverse narratives and frameworks for understanding ‘nature’ and our place within it.Narratives of Nature discussion circles will be held on a roughly monthly basis. Participants are invited to join and enter a friendly and open discussion on a particular text agreed on in the meeting before. Participation is open - please bring friends, neighbours, colleagues and family members along and feel free to join regularly or just for a one off. The discussion will be mostly in English, but all nationalities and identities are welcome.
The next book is Gathering Moss, by scientist, mother, teacher, and writer of Native American heritage, Dr. Robin w. Kimmerer. From staring up at the lofty heights of tree branches, we are going to turn our focus to the miniature forests of moss which sometimes seem so ubiquitous that we barely notice they are there at all.
On Thursday the 2nd of May at 17:30, we will meet to discuss our reflections on the text. The conversation is open ended, and all contributions are welcome. Some topics we might touch on are: why are some organisms more widely studied than others? What role does moss play in ecosystems across the world? and, How can different approaches to learning - through science, through stories, and through practice - help us understand these ecosystems in different ways?
Additional resources:
- If you struggle to read long texts, or prefer to absorb stories by listening, you can find an audiobook of Gathering Moss, narrated by the author, here.
- If you want to join in the conversation, but need something shorter or more accessible, there is a free essay here written by the same author on topics that she also covers in the book.
- If you like to use music to get you in the mood for conversation, here is a song about moss!
*Attendees are encouraged to find some moss to touch, "squish" and feel before we meet for the book club!
