$3.00 if you attend 3 or more times.
Why: Dues offset the cost of our web presence and go toward other group expenses.
The word "griot" is said to have its roots in West African culture. It is a word that means "storyteller." A griot, however, is much more than a storyteller in the sense of just entertaining listeners. Griots were and are revered for being walking repositories of a village's entire history from its inception until the passing of that griot who spends a good portion of his life training the next generation to continue the tradition.
If you are an aspiring/established writer of African, African-American and Caribbean literature, this group could be a good fit for you.
The purpose of the group is to provide a support system for those who want to write, need encouragement and constructive feedback for their writing and may also be able to offer encouragement and constructive feedback to other members who are writers.
Let's get together to continue telling our stories.
(There are nominal monthly dues to be a part of this group. This monthly fee will be used to offset the cost of our web presence (the fee that Meetup.com charges) and for other expenses of the Griot Writing Group. All money coming in and all money going out will be tracked on our group site and all griots have access to the financial page. There will be no secrets about how the money is handled for this group.)
