Happy 2012, Habit Designers! Hope your holidays were joyous and relaxing. You made 2011 an amazing inaugural year for @habitdesign (http://www.twitter.com/habitdesign), which has now grown to over 500 members across SF and NYC (and next Boston) in just the first 6 months. http://img1.meetupstatic.com/54916378942021045586710/img/smileys/shock.gif Thank you! Onward and upward...

We're thrilled to bring you another great event featuring not one but two recognized leaders in Behavior-Change. Be sure to RSVP now, we've sold out every event so far!

Stanford health psychologist Dr. Kelly McGonigal (http://kellymcgonigal.com/about-kelly-mcgonigal/) will be discussing the role of willpower and mindfulness in Habit Design. Kelly is a leading expert on the mind-body relationship and teaches for Stanford Medicine’s Health Improvement Program (http://hip.stanford.edu/) and is a senior teacher/consultant for the Stanford Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (http://ccare.stanford.edu/). She has received a number of teaching awards for her undergraduate psychology courses, including Stanford University’s highest teaching honor, the Walter J. Gores award. Her popular public courses through Stanford’s Continuing Studies (http://continuingstudies.stanford.edu/)program—including the Science of Willpower and the Science of Compassion—demonstrate the applications of psychological science to personal health and happiness, as well as organizational success and social change. Her upcoming book, The Willpower Instinct: How Self-Control Works, Why It Matters, and What You Can Do to Get More of It (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1583334386/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=kellmcgospers-20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399373&creativeASIN=1583334386) (Penguin, Jan 2012), explores cutting-edge research on motivation, temptation, and addiction, as well as what it takes to make a successful change.

http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/a/2/3/c/event_85301532.jpegWe received many requests to bring Dr. David Sobel (http://xnet.kp.org/kpinternational/faculty/sobel.html) back after his smash hit talk at December's meetup at The Institute For The Future in Palo Alto on the importance of beliefs, moods, and confidence in Habit Design. David has graciously offered to continue the conversation with us. We will be uploading his presentation shortly. We'll resume the personal "ignite"-talks for the next meetup.

Finally, thanks to our wonderful hosts at Parisoma (http://www.parisoma.com) who will be opening up their co-working facility to us again! Hope to see you there on Friday, the 3rd. Bring a friend!
