have made many different kinds of mobile robots and robot arms - I like those that can be made from readily-available parts from hardware stores, etc. I have made a couple of quadcopters from 3D-printed parts. and I have built several RepRap 3D printers and DIY CNC machines. I am currently enjoying making DIY music synthesizers. In the pipeline are: an Arduino-based drinkbot, a computer display built from lasers and photoactive materials, several pieces of lab equipment for DIYBio work, and a bunch of RaspberryPI-based automation and music projects.
I have always loved the interface between the machine-like aspect of life, and an increasing tendency for machines to act in a life-like way. As a result, I have been involved in computational biology and robotics research for my whole career.
