Join us at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 30 for lightning talks and panel discussion with Lauren Bertolini & Mikolaj Szabó (Kinja), Jane Friedhoff (The New York Times R&D Lab), Blair Hickman (The Marshall Project), Andrew Losowsky (The Coral Project) and Derek Mead (Motherboard).
They'll talk about how they approach the challenges of encouraging civil discourse: the product decisions, the engineering considerations and the whole crazy ball of wax that is human conversation.
Schedule:
6:30 p.m.: Doors, dinner + socializing
7 p.m.: Lightning talks, panel discussion + Q&A with Lauren Bertolini & Nikolaj Szabó, Jane Friedhoff, Blair Hickman, Andrew Losowsky and Derek Mead.
~8:15 p.m.: Hiring announcements, networking and socializing

Lauren Bertolini (@MsLaurenRae (https://twitter.com/mslaurenrae)) is director of platform products at Gawker Media.
Jane Friedhoff (@JFriedhoff (https://twitter.com/jfriedhoff)) is a creative technologist in The New York Times R&D Lab, where she prototypes future interactions in news and media. She is also a game designer, and web developer. Her work focuses on how interactive digital objects can create new, unusual, and surprising relationships between people.
Blair Hickman (@amandablair (https://twitter.com/amandablair)) is the audience editor at The Marshall Project. Previously, she was a community editor at ProPublica, where she used engagement tactics to aid reporting on investigations into patient harm and unpaid internships. Prior to that, she worked on digital strategy at the Solutions Journalism Network. Hickman has a BA in nonfiction writing from Brown University and a master’s degree in digital journalism from NYU.
Andrew Losowsky (@losowsky (https://twitter.com/losowsky)) is the Project Lead on The Coral Project, a Mozilla project created in collaboration with The New York Times and The Washington Post. Coral is building open source tools to make better communities around journalism. Before this, he worked on product and editorial at News Corp and The Huffington Post, and was a John S. Knight Fellow at Stanford University. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Journalism+Design program at The New School.
Derek Mead (@derektmead (https://twitter.com/derektmead)) is editor-in-chief of Motherboard, a site about how the future is alternately wonderful and terrifying. He loves tigers, bicycles, and daydreaming about throwing his phone into the East River.
Mikolaj Szabó (@privateblue (https://twitter.com/privateblue)) is senior platform engineer at Gawker Media.
