Hacks/HackersCO June Meetup

Details
It's been a while since our last meetup, but Hacks/Hackers Colorado is back!
Our next event will be hosted by Syntax Physic Opera (http://physicopera.com) on 554 South Broadway, Denver. Doors open at 6pm for a 6:30pm start.
Thanks to Boulder Digital Arts (https://www.boulderdigitalarts.com/) for offering a free class or workshop to one lucky member (details below), and also to ONA Rocky Mountains (https://www.meetup.com/ONA-Rocky-Mountains) for teaming up with us for this event.
Speakers
- Lauren Gustus, @laurengustus (https://twitter.com/laurengustus), Fort Collins Coloradoan
Lauren is executive editor at The Coloradoan, a Gannet-owned outlet which takes a platform-specific approach to breaking news.
She will talk about how her award-winning team is embracing new technology within the newsroom, including using analytics to inform stories, and how other journalists can incorporate metrics into their work.
- Robert Hernandez, @webjournalist (https://twitter.com/webjournalist), USC Annenberg School
Robert is an associate professor at USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism in Los Angeles.
He is an ONA board member, a co-organizer of Hacks/Hackers LA and the co-founder of #wjchat (https://twitter.com/search?q=%23wjchat&src=typd), a weekly Twitter chat for journalists.
Robert will explain why news organizations should be experimenting with virtual reality storytelling – and he's also bringing a Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard which you'll have a chance to try out.
- Steve Outing, @steveouting (https://twitter.com/steveouting)
Since leaving CU, where he founded the Digital News Test Kitchen, Steve is now working with the Knight Foundation on its Community Foundations Programe (http://www.knightfoundation.org/funding-initiatives/community-foundations-program).
He will talk about how the programe is challenging local community foundations to step up and support the growth of alternative local news initiatives.
The program represents new opportunities for journalists, technologists and developers to apply their skills and innovations to new kinds of (usually non-profit) local news providers.
