SPEAKERS
- Leo Kacenjar, @OMFoundation (https://twitter.com/OMFoundation), Open Media Foundation
Leo is a web developer at the Denver-based Open Media Foundation (http://openmediafoundation.org).
Earlier this year, he received $35,000 from the Knight Foundation Prototype Fund to build She Said, He Said (http://www.shesaidhesaidproject.org/) (SSHS), a tool for searching videos of public meetings for moments when a specific government official is speaking.
Leo will talk about the development process for SSHS, in addition to how it can be used by journalists.
- Mike Hawkins, @HawkinsMike (https://twitter.com/hawkinsmike), Riddle
Mike is the co-founder of Riddle (http://www.riddle.com/welcome), an app for creating quizzes and opinion polls.
Mike will talk about how journalists and publishers are using Riddle, and similar interactive tools, to boost the engagement and social virality of their stories.
- Trevor Hughes, @TrevorHughes (https://twitter.com/TrevorHughes), USA Today
Trevor is a reporter for USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/), covering the Rocky Mountain West. He reported from the scene of the Planned Parenthood shooting in Colorado Springs on November 27, providing live updates from the incident via Twitter.
Trevor will talk about how he covered the CO Springs shooting amid the wealth of conflicting information which was emerging on social media. He will discuss best practice for journalists covering active shootings, and the verification and ethical issues to consider.
Hope to see you there!
