June Hadoop Meetup: Data processing with Pig

This month's meetup is focusing on Pig and how it's used as a higher level language on top of Hadoop. As this meetup is at SkillsMatter you'll also need to register on their event page as well as here. We'll have beer and pizza again which this month is provided by The Arrows Group who are kindly sponsoring the evening. The talks organised for the evening are :-

Pizza and beer start at around 6:30pm with the talks starting at 7pm. As usual we'll head to the pub after to carry on into the evening...

Glad I went but I don't think Skype works well enough for presentations.

We had a couple of sessions out of which the first one from Andy clegg was useful and interesting.

The following session which was over the skype didn't seem to have a clear picture of what's being presented.

the networking aspect was quite good as usual. The first talk on private experimentation with Pig was interesting for my novice mind, but Hadoop on Azure wasn't pertinent to me and I didn't really understand the reasons behind some of the supposed benefits of the windows package.

Catering and company great. Follow up slides on Pig helpful. Second talk not so good.
Thanks for arranging the evening and the support.

I enjoyed the talk on Pig...it was very useful.

The talk on Azure was hampered by Skype, unfortunately. In my opinion Skype-based presentations are best avoided -- I've never yet seen a decent presentation carried out over Skype...there's always garbled audio, freezing shared desktop, etc.

Got some new ideas on PIG syntax and list of pig libraries mentioned in the first presentation was extremely useful.
