Hike Sullivan Canyon

The Hike: Sullivan Canyon is a relatively easy out and back hike of about 7.5 miles. This is a pleasant hike along a wide, shaded trail that parallels a seasonal stream (currently dry). Being that is it not too far from the Ocean, it should be cooler there than inland Los Angeles areas.

Directions: From the 405 Freeway, exit on Sunset going towards the beach, turn right on Mandeville Canyon, left on Westridge Road, left on Bayless, and left on Queensferry Road. Park near the gate. Please allow enough time to get there, find parking and begin the hike at 8:30AM. I will have some carpool space from Altadena, Glendale and Universal City Red Line station parking lot.

WHAT TO BRING: Comfortable hiking shoes, ample water, sun screen, insect repellant and  something to snack on for an energy boost about midway.

Great hike. Enjoyed meeting some new people and getting in some exercise.

We had a great group of hikers - I had a chance to meet some new people and to see some hikers I haven't seen in a while (plus a few I see on a fairly regular basis)We had the option of turning around at any point, but everyone forged ahead to get to the original planned turn around point where the road makes a hair-pin turn - this plus the distance from the gate to where most of us parked gave us a total of 8.25 miles with 790 ft. overall elevation gain. There was a lot of shade and an occasional breeze - when we finished it was 82°. The real challenge for this hike was finding legal parking.

We are going to have a very nice hike - there are 19 Early Birds signed up - we will probably wind up with a group of 15 or so. Please be sure you have adequate water.

Hi, are dogs allowed? If I can't take my dog, is there any space for carpooling from anywhere near Alhambra? Thanks!

Yay - looks like a nice sized hike - 12 more from Earlybird are ready to go.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
