10.9 km hike. Class 4 (Australian Standards). Approximate hike time is 4 to 5 hours, including mid-hike lunch. Postcard-perfect waterfalls! This track branches from the Border Track 1.8 km from the part entrance and leads directly to Picnic Rock and Elabana Falls. It runs through rainforest, pass impressive stands of smooth, pink-barked brush box before reaching the falls. Similar brush box in other parts of the World Heritage area have been radiocarbon dated at 1500 years, making these giant trees the oldest ever carbon-dated on Australia's mainland.
We'll walk this circuit in a clockwise direction and exit via Elabana and Picnic Rock. We'll stop mid-way along the hike for lunch.
What to bring: good hiking boots, hat, sunscreen, mosquito/leech repellent, packed lunch, water bottle, first aid kit.
Where to meet: meet at 9:15am right in front of the entrance to the O'Reilly's Gift Shop, which is next to The Mountain Cafe.
http://www.oreillys.com.au/gift-shop. Hike departs at 9:30am.
How to get to O'Reilly's Gift Shop: http://www.oreillys.com.au/how-to-get-here As you're travelling away from Canungra you'll pass O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat and you'll reach the end of the road where the large parking lot is. Keep walking straight up the street and The Mountain Cafe and Gift Shop are on the right-hand side of the footpath.
Carpooling: Should you wish/need to carpool the best way is to put your request down when you RSVP, together with your suburb where you are coming from. Naturally we can never guarantee a lift with other members.
How much should riders contribute to carpooling costs? Anyone who owns a car know the most expensive part of a trip is not the petrol, but the running costs (registration, insurance, depreciation, etc.). A suggestion (based upon what one of the other hiking Meetup organizers recommends) as to what is a reasonable contribution is up to $20 EACH depending on where the rider is coming from. I recommend that the carpool driver and carpool rider discuss costs in advance to avoid possible misunderstandings/disappointments.

Rain options: If it's sprinkly rain, I'll still go. If it's stormy weather, I'll post a cancellation on this web site by 7:00am that morning.
