Starting and Maintaining A Creative Company with Alex Donovan

So you have the skills and ability to make anything you want. After you leave art school, get a programming degree or learn on your own time you're going to want clients. You might even want to make it a full time gig. So how the heck do you do that?

This is a very specific talk that goes into the exact formula of creating a company, getting it off the ground and finding those clients that are all out there looking for a way to promote their company (and there are a lot of clients out there.)

This is what we will cover:

  • The 3 Basic components of any organization
  • The many hats of a group (who wears which hat again?)
  • Market to and find the client
  • Securing the close and sale
  • What the heck is a contract?
  • How do you grow your company and keep it solvent?
  • Q & A

Alex did an excellent overview of how to start up a business.

Very informative and well presented. I will highly recommend Alex to some Chambers and the SCORE program. I think he covered all of the needed information. You may want to make it a little bit more generic. Some 'startups' are not that into the use of 'high-level' technology. Maybe you can talk to the "Hartford Startup Weekend" and "Startup Cafe" people along with the Chamber of Commerce of Hartford and HYPE. This info should come after the validation.

I wanted to thank everyone who came last night and also to Scott for organizing and putting on these events. I appreciate the time everyone took out of their day to come by and I hope it offered some help and answered some questions. Best of luck in your ventures and I wish you all great success. Hopefully our paths will cross in the future!

I am sad ti miss this one, please record, always better in person. It would be nice to know about funding and start up costs, maybe you can ask or we can have someone come in and talk to us about this?
