Let's head up to Alaska and see Denali national park. The scenery up in Alaska is absolutely amazing.
I have talked to Princess Cruise lines (via Expedia) and I plan to go on August 15. They told me if we can get 16 people or more, we may be able to get a group discounted rate. Let's see how many people we can round up to head North. I have found us an 8 day Northbound cruise on the Princess, Island Princess ship.
We will leave on for Vancouver on August 15th on United flights 5602 and 946. Flight 946 arrives in Vancouver at 10:31 AM. We depart on the Island Princess at 4:30 pm.
Here is the itinerary:
Day: 1. Pull out of Vancouver Canada at 4:30 pm, on August 15th
2. Day at sea
3. Ketchikan Alaska
4. Juneau, Alaska
5. Skagway, Alaska
6. Glacier Bay, Alaska
7. College Fjord, Alaska
8. Whittier, Alaska, Arrive August 22nd.
Each port will have plenty of shore excursions to keep us busy.
Once we get into Whittier, we'll take the narrated shuttle all the way to Anchorage and spend a day exploring Anchorage. We also plan to do a seaplane ride over to the Prince William Sound. This is about a 2.5 hour plane ride landing on the water.
On August 23, we'll take the train ride all the way to Denali national park. This is supposed to be the most scenic way to get to the park. On August 24 we'll do the narrated shuttle around the park and hopefully see some wild life. We'd also like to do some hiking if time permits. The park shuttle takes us as far as we can go on the main road into Denali.
On August 25, we'll then take a narrated shuttle back to Anchorage and this takes about 5 hours.
Finally we head for home on August 26th. We'll be on Delta flights 9048, 1634 and 2071. Flight 9048 leaves Anchorage at 12:30 AM and we'll arrive at Skyharbor on flight 2071 at 11:50 AM. Yes, there are 2 stops on the way home. One in Seattle and one in Salt Lake City.
