UPDATE Nov 25:
There is limited parking at the trail head so car-pooling is recommended.
Just a few details:
1) I will not be able to attend a meal after the hike, but there are some who have expressed interest. There is a Dinner near by which has been open on past holidays
2) The hike will be somewhere between 7 and 8 miles. It is an out-and-back. I predict it will take at least 4 hours to complete. Thus we should be back at the cars by about 1:30 to 2 pm.
3) The Park and Ride is just North of Rt 70 in western ellicott city maryland and is on Rt 32 (exit 80 off Rt 70). Once you get off Rt 70 (North) get into the left lane immediately and you will see the park and ride in about 1/8 of a mile on the left. You can get to Rt 70 from DC via Rt 29 (though there are lights on this road). I have driven from downtown DC to the park and ride in about 1 hour without traffic (so you might want to add a few minutes to this estimate).
4) Hiking boots are strongly recommended as the trails WILL BE VERY muddy in parts and there are some stream crossings. Also bring some drinking water.
I will not have email access after lunch time today.
Please join me for this very scenic but as far as I've seen never scheduled hike in the Patapsco Valley State Park's Western section. The hike will traverse along a scenic river which provides some very nice views of the water and rock formations within the park. There are some rolling hills but nothing too challenging. I expect the hike to be about 8 miles at a moderate pace of about 2.0 - 2.5 mph.
After the hike we can go to a local dinner for a post hike meal (at your own expense).
Hiking boots are strongly recommended as the trail is typically muddy and there are a few stream crossings. Please bring water.
Please arrive at the Park and Ride just north of RT 70 on Rt 32 (exit 80) in Ellicott City Maryland prior to 9:00 am, As I will leave promptly at 9:00 am.
Please leave pets and children under 21 years of age at home.
If you have any questions, please send me an Email prior to 12:01 pm on Nov 25, 2009.
RSVP and No-show Policies: If you RSVP Maybe and there is a waiting list, you must update your RSVP at least 48 hours (2 days) prior to the hike to indicate if you are coming or not. If you do not, I will assume you are not coming and your RSVP will be deleted to make room for people from the waiting list. If you RSVP Yes or Maybe, and fail to come to the hike led by me you will be precluded from participating in future hikes I lead and I will delete any subsequent RSVPs you make for my hikes. If you have a legitimate reason why you could not attend and could not update your RSVP, please contact me and I will take this into consideration. This policy is intended to prevent people from being precluded from hikes when they can be accommodated, and applies only to hikes I lead. Furthermore, If I discover that you have RSVP'd Yes or Maybe for both this event and one in ANY other group, you will be deleted from the list and precluded from any of my future hikes.
Cancellation Policy: I will cancel a hike in the event of extreme weather (e.g. thunderstorms actually occurring in the hike area) or hazardous trail conditions (such as ice on the trail). Whenever possible, I will send a cancellation notice prior to hike time. If this is not possible (or the hazard is not apparent until we are at the trail head), we will decide at the trail head, as a group, whether to hike or not.
Posted Comments: Please do not post any comments pertaining to wanting me to move this event to a different location, a different time, and another day. I'm a volunteer. You will be deleted!
