A hiking group for beginner and intermediate level hikers. Advanced hikers will need to accommodate themselves to the speed and needs of the group.
This is group hiking with the participants expected to keep within sight of each other. If you are independent and prefer to march to the beat of your own drummer - either slow or fast - this Meetup group may not suit you. We stop at trail intersections to wait for everyone to catch up or if we get too far apart.
We usually hike in Quebec, with the occasional excursion to Vermont or the Adirondacks. Although certain parks permit leashed dogs, as a courtesy to those members allergic or uncomfortable with dogs, we request that you leave yours at home when participating in an event with this Meetup group.
"Beginner": distance maximum 10 km, usually categorized as Easy, or Easy/Moderate. Recommended if you are new to hiking, have done some exercise lately and can climb a flight of stairs without difficulty and manage Montreal's uphill streets, with rest stops. Trails will have small hills or steeper, but short inclines. Hiking shoes or boots required - there can be roots, rocks, mud. Hiking - not strolling!
"Intermediate" (trail difficulty Moderate or Moderate/Difficult): Trails are rocky, narrow, change in elevation greater, distance up to 15 km. Recommended for those who are ready for a bigger challenge or are already in good physical shape because you exercise regularly (i.e. such as running, spinning, racket sports, etc.) - . Hiking boots required. If you are unsure if you are ready for this category, start with an Easy or Easy/Moderate level hike first. Don't rely on memories of past glory (20 years ago, I hiked ....), and risk not being able to complete the hike. No fun for you or anyone else. Destinations in Quebec, Vermont and Adirondacks (less demanding peaks).
In the winter, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and downhill skiing.
Please read the ENTIRE description before signing up for an event. When in doubt - ask!
