Charllton Flats/Mt Vetter

Greetings all my next hike was going to be Strawberry peak But it is closed because of the Station fire a few years back. It is in the recovery area. Instead we will go to Charlton Flats with an option to go to Vetter Mountain. This hike will be at most 1300 feet elevation gain/loss. This hike is still not for beginners. It is 3 miles to Charlton Flats and back would be the same 3 miles. Vetter Mountain is 1.2 miles beyond Charlton Flats. So to Charlton Flats and back is a total of 6 miles. To Vetter mountain and back would make it an 8.4 mile hike round trip.  To get there take the 110 north to where it ends in Pasadena. Continue up what is now Arroyo Parkway to California Street and turn left. Go to the on ramp for the 210 west, (stay over to the left side of the freeway), take the 210 to Angeles Crest hwy, (number 2). Go toward the mountains on Angeles Crest Hwy. Continue to 5 miles past Red Box Ranger Station. The parking area is just past the intersection of Big Tujunga Road. It has a sign that says "Entering National Forest Recreation Fee Area" on the right side and a big yellow sign that says "Road Closed 24 Miles Ahead" at one end of it. See the two pictures in the album to see hat the signs look like. The Trail will begin here. Hope to see you there Norman

Is that the Silver Moccasin Trail past Upper Big Tujunga Road? If so Google shows that at approx. 5 miles past Red Box Ranger Station?

Isn't Strawberry Peak still closed? I can't find anything that says it has reopened.

I'd like to go on this hike, but also think the trails are still closed and don't want to break the rules. Does anyone know if the trail to the peak has been reopened?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
