Mount Hillyer

Greetings All My next hike will be  to Mount Hillyer. 900 foot elevation gain/loss. 6 miles round trip, a there and back hike. To get there, take the 110 north to its end in Pasadena, go to California St and turn left get on the 210 heeading west, get off at Angeles Crest Highway, take angeles crest 24 miles to chilao campground, there is a large sign that says "CHILAO CAMPGOUND", turn left at and go down the road. there will be several side road off to the left and right DO NOT take those. You are looking for a sign that says "SILVER MOCCASIN" TRAIL" it is located in spot in the road that will hold 4 cars at most on the left side of the road. you will go about a mile before you see this sign. The sign is easy to miss if cars are parked in front of it. This is the trail head. Park here or at the cut out in the road about 50 yards back from this, which holds more cars by the way. Trail starts here. Bring water and sunscreen, This is not a hike for the couch potato, if you have done a hike or two and/or are in reasonably good shape no problem. Keep in mind we are going from 5300 feet to 6200 feet. 5 dollar day use fee required, get the permits at the ranger station that is at the intersection of Angeles Crest Hwy and Angeles Forest Hwy about 9 miles from La Canada on the right side of road, if you see a sign for Switezers you have passed it. They do take debit and credit however cash is best. Hope to see you there Norman

Was really looking forward to connecting with this group and hiking the mountain but a mountain bike crash last night sprained my shoulder and knocked about my collarbone and I just don't think I'm going to be up for it but I'll catch you guys on the next one enjoy

Just wanted to add that the $5 daily use permit can also be purchased before you go to the trail at Adventure 16, Big 5, REI, and Sports Chalet stores too. The pass is called the National Forest Adventure Pass and ask for the Daily Pass.

Theory brain air, the back and forth of feet to earth, the meditative effect of nature and exhilarating breaths with new people.

Do you need to purchase a day pass from the park ranger for vehicles?

Someone mentioned carpooling. I live in La Crescenta (very close to Angeles Crest Forest. I can offer my neighborhood as a meeting place. Plenty of parking and we can carpool from there.
