Santa Paula Canyon

Details
We will MEET AT the Sylmar Rideshare Point at 8:00am. Take the 405 north to the 5 north, go right at the Roxford Exit, then another right (immediately) on Encinitas St. Park on the street by the Denny's and McDonalds.
From the rideshare point we can CARPOOL to the trailhead since the parking there is limited. The trailhead is at St. Thomas Aquanis College in Santa Paula (on the way to Ohai). I have maps with directions from the rideshare to the trailhead that I will give out. You will not need a parking pass.
DETAILS: This beautiful canyon is in the Los Padres National Forest. It's a little farther drive than most of the hikes we do but I think it's worth the drive (about 1.5 hours from LA to the trailhead). About 8-9 miles round trip, about 1200 ft. elevation gain. It is a challenging hike- YOU WILL NEED A LOT OF ENERGY. LOTS of rock hopping/rough terrain. We will pass a waterfall and cool rock formations called the 'punchbowls' and 'moonrocks'. IF there is time and/or enough daylight, we will be exploring a SIDE CANYON.
THIS IS A LONG HIKE. YOU WILL BE TIRED AFTER THE HIKE! DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS HIKE IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING YOU WANT TO DO LATER THAT EVENING!
You can see PICTURES of this hike in the Santa Paula Canyon album on this site (page 2 of the photo albums- May 24th 2008 hike has the most pictures).
BRING: lunch, snacks, AT LEAST 2 qts. water, shoes or hiking boots that can get wet, and WARM CLOTHES.
IF THERE IS A LOT OF RAIN PRIOR TO THIS HIKE OR ON THE DAY OF THE HIKE, WE WILL DO A "PLAN B" HIKE. (The stream can be too swift to cross when there is rain.)
