Melakwa Lake - Saturday

Melakwa Lake - Saturday

Details

This is one of my favorite hikes and let's soak in some fall colors. The lake is located in a narrow valley with Chair Peak to the east and Kaleetan Peak to the west. It is known for its clear water and beautiful blue-green color. The trail to the lake follows a magical valley of waterfalls, rapids and lush forest.

Meet at 7.00 am at Eastgate park and ride underneath the overpass.

Distance: 9 miles rt.

Elevation gain: 2300ft.

Rating: moderate.

Pace: moderate.

Please bring warm clothes, yak trax ( there may be snow and ice on the trail ) ,gloves!.

Bring some cash to cover the carpool fee . 10 - 15 cents per mile is suggested for riders. It is about 40 miles each way from the park and ride to the trail head. IT'S HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO BRING YAK TRAX OR MICRO SPIKES AND HIKING POLES AS THERE MIGHT BE SNOW IN THE TRAIL.

Note: A Northwest Forrest Service Pass is required for parking at the trail head. We will be hiking moderate pace. (About 2 miles/hour)
