Peeble's Island State Park:The Perimeter Trail: Weeknight Dog Walk After Work!

Peeble's Island State Park:The Perimeter Trail: Weeknight Dog Walk After Work!

Details

This hike is for those that have dogs or just love hiking in the company of canines. Guests are encouraged, with or without dogs! We are a friendly, cheerful group hoping that you and your canines will treat yourselves to a fun social event in a beautiful natural setting. These interim weeknight walks in our area parks are a wonderful way to find others who also enjoy weekend hiking with canines - when we can find those larger chunks of time to get away into the mountains for a day or two!

Peeble's Island is a nature-lover's treasure offering nature walks that are both diverse and serene. Treat yourself and your canine to this scenic walk with the group.

Your Host: Jennifer P. (Co-Organizer of Capital District Canine Hikes) driving the dark blue Altima and accompanying Mika, the foxy little red Shiba Inu. I've let her know I've cross-posted her event on this site and with Albany/Saratoga Dog Hiking Group: https://www.meetup.com/Albany-Saratoga-area-dog-hiking-group/events/65524332/.

The Trailhead: Meet at Battery Park parking lot located at the end of 1st Street in Waterford between 6:15 - 6:30pm. We'll depart promptly at 6:30pm to walk across the Peeble's Island Bridge and along The Perimeter Trail in Peeble's Island State Park.

Gear: Gear up appropriately for the weather conditions of the day and the unpaved paths - sturdy footwear or even sneakers should suffice. Bring water, snacks, bug spray, tick repellant, etc...for yourself and your dog. Please also bring what you need to clean up after your dog as we set a good example of responsible trail use on this and other highly traveled paths. Bags are not always provided at the trails themselves.

The Perimeter Trail: The trail winds through open meadows, a hardwood forest, along cliff tops, and past river rapids. Though located within viewing distance and ear-shot of nearby towns, three nearby uninhabited islands offer protected wilderness views to the west and the roaring rapids at the southeast shore often drown out man-made sounds. White-tail deer, beaver, skunks, hawks, owls and water fowl are frequently spotted.

Duration & Pace: Please expect a moderate pace on this two-mile loop.

Weather: In the case of steady rain close to the meet up time, the event will be postponed to a future date TBA. In questionable weather, please check the CDCH site for last minute updates and for further info: https://www.meetup.com/Capital-Dictrict-Canine-Hikes/events/65488012/?a=ea1_grp&rv=ea1&_af_eid=65488012&_af=event .

NOTE: Before signing up for our events, you must be aware that there are inherent risks in this and any activity and agree to be responsible for yourself and your dogs. All hikers and dog owners are responsible for themselves and their dogs and any safety issues that may arise due to their own and their canine's behavior. You know yourself and your own dogs best and are responsible for safe socializing within the group. If/when you let your dogs off-leash, keep in mind variables that could cause safety issues: terrain, traffic, obedience/temperment, other dogs, trail regulations, etc... Your participation in hiking and dog hiking events is based on your full understanding and agreement that you will not transfer responsibility from yourself to Hiking Mates or any other Meet-Up group involved in the event - especially in the rare case of self injury or dogs injuring themselves or others.
