houston.js Message Board › Exciting Things coming up!
As most of you guys know, Suzanne and I had our first baby March 22nd. Rose is doing great!
This is our first so I wasn't exactly prepared for how crazy life gets afterwards. So note to future parents: You can do zero things for awhile. :)
I knew March would be crazy so Chris Oakman stepped up and did a fantastic job with the Clojure meeting. I have heard it was amazing and wished I could have been there.
I was hoping to get an April meeting, but obviously I failed at scheduling. Besides Rose, I have been dealing with some business changes (good + bad + ... just changes). In the end, I think it all worked out.
That being said, we are about to get busy with houston.js and the Houston tech scene!
I am a list guy, so here is the list!
1. Techsas: http://www.meetup.com... happening May 10th
Help teach others the awesomeness of coding on the web. I will be helping on the teaching side. Rich Winley from Iron Yard is the power house behind this great addition to the Houston conferences / meetups.
2. Iron Yard
3. Discover Meteor; Houston Developers Book Club
We are wrapping up the Node.js book. Well, we will be shelving it for a bit to start on the Meteor book asap. So if you have been interested in Meteor but haven't tried it out, check us out at : https://plus.google.c...
You can buy the book at: https://www.discoverm...
4. Meteor for all! (title can / will change) Should happen sometime in July
Like Rails Girls but we will be teaching Meteor to those new to development. So if you are interested in teaching but don't know Meteor. See #3
5. Stacktrace.tv http://www.stacktrace...
I am testing the waters with this startup idea. A twitch.tv for developers. Videos of developers working together making software. Be sure to sign up to know about future updates. Also, signing up will make me smile. :) ps.. share!
Jesse Wolgamott and Adam Sunderland will be working with houston.js to have Ember.js focused meetings. Those guys love them some Ember and want to share. Instead of splintering into smaller groups, I would like to see targeted subgroups under the big tent of houston.js. More users, more meeting, more influence. If you have a technology specific subgroup you would like to create, please let me know.
7. Moar houston.js meetings!
I am going to start planning 3 months out and have a rolling schedule. If you have topics you want to present or speakers you would like to see, please let me know.
Whew! That is it for now! Stay tuned for the next meeting to happen in May.
