Houston PHP Users Group Monthly Meetup

Kalley Powell from Kapow Consulting will be doing a presentation on CouchDB, a very popular NoSQL open-source project.

CouchDB is a powerful database/web/application server that has some interesting case studies under its belt for such a young technology.  This month, we're going to take a look at CouchDB, create a fairly simple application that takes advantage of Couch's innate abilities, and query CouchDB using PHP.  For a quick overview of how CouchDB is being used in the wild, take a look at .

We will also have a few prizes to give away at the meeting: a free ticket to the upcoming ZendCon (October[masked], more details at We will also have a book on Drupal to give to one lucky winner. We will do a couple of random drawings for these prizes!

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

For my first experience with the PHP group, I would say it was a great experience. The speaker catered to both new developers (me), and dabbled in discussion with more experienced developers. I'll definitely be coming back to future events.

I learned a lot about PHP and CouchDB. Moreover, I received excellent guidance from the group about various PHP related topics.

I thought it was a good meeting. The presenter had a lot of knowledge about CouchDB to share. He answered everyone's questions. I think he should have spent more time on PHP and CouchDB because that part was only 20 minutes or so. But overall I thought it was fine.
