We'll be having a special meet up on the campus of Wofford College at The SPACE (in The Mungo Center). This meet up will be appropriate for all ages and backgrounds. Folks interested in data collection applications and experiments are especially encouraged to attend. We've received several requests to do more hardware related meet ups since the Upstate of SC has a rich manufacturing history. This will be the first in a series of meet ups that will help folks interested in prototyping hardware/software solutions get started. Maybe the next great device will be prototyped and manufactured in Upstate, SC?

During this meet up, we will:

  • Introduce the Raspberry Pi hardware (including recent changes with the model B+)

  • Talk about ShadeTree OBD, https://github.com/corbinbs/shadetree, a Python library that makes it easy to communicate with OBDII enabled vehicles using Python, a Raspberry Pi, and a bluetooth OBDII scanner. Ever wanted to see why that check engine light is on? ShadeTree helps you do that and a lot more all while demonstrating key Python language features.

  • Cover use cases for the Camera module accessory. Capture still images and video all from Python with a Raspberry Pi

  • Give away a complete Raspberry Pi B+ kit! (includes USB bluetooth adapter, bluetooth OBDII scanner, and a Raspberry Pi Camera module!)
