Hi Jeff....the news about the new shelter is WONDERFUL!!!   Congratulations to all of you,
I knew you could do it!!  You have all hung in there longer than most people and I really
hope this new boost will be good for everyone.  If I come across any grant possibilities
I think would be helpful to HSL, I'll send the info along.
Cheers and good wishes,
        ~~  Susan

Our 25th anniversary year is off to an exciting start. We hit the ground

running on day one, working hard for Louisiana's defenseless animals.

Your support will help us meet our goals this year, like:

47 Acres

Making our new 47.5 acre sanctuary a reality in Mt. Hermon, Louisiana.  In case you haven't heard our big news, a generous donor gave us a significant down payment towards the purchase of the land; we are working hard to secure the remaining funds. This property near our Tylertown site will be a lasting refuge for thousands of abused, neglected and homeless animals for years to come.

Cruelty Case Dog
Developing and organizing more volunteer chapters around the state to help animals.  Our chapter volunteers investigate cruelty and rescue homeless pets in rural areas where no other groups help animals in need.  Already this year, we've started laying the groundwork for a new chapter in north Louisiana, which will aid abused and neglected horses.

This poor dog's tale had a happy ending.  He recovered after being seriously neglected.

Workshop Picture
Giving more law enforcement and humane officers the tools they need to effectively fight animal abuse and neglect. We'll hold the first of several planned cruelty investigation workshops in Mansura (in Avoyelles parish) this weekend. (Some spaces still available - contact[address removed])  More classes will be announced soon! We're busy developing online resources to help investigators in the field, and we recently kicked off an inter-agency networking group for Louisiana humane investigators who support each other on case work.

Katrina with Rooster

Teaching more kids about compassion with our humane education program at schools and youth centers in the Greater New Orleans area. Our new campaign headquarters, which will open soon at theNew Orleans Healing Center, will be the center of all our local programs, including our annual NOLA Veggie Fest, which will educate thousands of people this year about healthy, cruelty-free eating and compassion for animals on farms

We've set big goals this year, but we're still working on a modest budget. Can you pitch in what you can to help? We're counting on our friends and supporters to DONATE what they can.  You can mail your donation to P.O. Box[masked], New Orleans, LA  70174 or click HERE to make an online contribution.

And don't say we didn't give you enough notice....

You are invited to our 25th anniversary party gala - a fun-filled fundraiser full of surprises that you won't want to miss!!  Plan to join us as we celebrate our successes, unveil our vision for the next 25 years and just have a wonderful party marking the occasion.  (Sssh!! Rumor has it that there will be an 80s dance party theme, since we were founded back in 1988.)  Details to follow!

CAN YOU HELP WITH ANY OF THESE NEEDED ITEMS? To set up our new office, we are seeking many items: scanner, book shelves, storage shelves, literature displays, small commercial printer, Office Depot and Lowes gift cards, laptop, shredder, office supplies. We also really need a washing machine (a commercial machine would be even better) and a freezer at our sanctuary.  Please contact us at [address removed]or call us at [masked] if you are able to help

Thank you for your support!
Don't forget: we accept used cars and boats as tax-deductible donations.  Contact us at [address removed].
