The Tenets of Humanism Series

Details

Trying to define your own worldview or philosophy? Want to hone your own understanding of humanism? Interested in learning to explain humanism to others? If so, then this five week series exploring the foundations of humanism is for you. Participants are encouraged to come to all of the sessions, but folks are welcome to come as they are able. While humanist writings will be referenced throughout, the emphasis will be on each individual’s exploration of their personal lifestance. Bring your questions and musings—ready to listen to others as well as share your own story and insights. The outline below is a rough summary of the focus of each session.

July 31st--H ow do we know what we know? Observation, experimentation and rational analysis.

August 7th-- What is our place in the universe? Naturalism, evolution and interdependence.

August 14th--How are ethics determined? Moral reasoning, experience and mutual well-being.

August 21st--How do we find meaning and purpose in our lives? Creativity, connections and the good life.

August 28th--What is the value of the “humanitarian” outlook? Co-operation, sustainability and service.

Led by Audrey Kingstrom, Community Coordinator for the Humanists of Minnesota.
