The world's most prominent advocate of Young Earth Creationism, Ken Ham of Answers In Genesis, is coming to Houston this August, and will be the keynote speaker at the annual THSC homeschooling convention in August. While there, he'll be presenting homeschooling families and children with his extreme fundamentalist views--that the universe is less than 7,000 years old, and that dinosaurs coexisted with humans--all under the false guise of "science".
Houston Atheists will be there too, in a demonstration outside the convention all day Saturday, to promote the real science and to encourage convention attendees to find out what science really says--by researching for themselves the truth about the age of the universe and where we all came from, and by attending our event the following day, Answers In Science. Also joining us all day Saturday will be world-famous secular activist and Texas State Director for American Atheists AronRa, as well as blogger and host of YouTube show “The n0nes”, Sister Lilandra.
If you're interested in being involved in the demonstration, simply RSVP to this event and someone will follow up with you regarding specific time slot(s). Or just show up! Houston Atheists will have a presence at the convention all day Saturday, but will be particularly targeting the peak times which will have the most foot traffic.
Houston Atheists will have lots of flyers to hand out and will be providing a limited number of pre-printed signs, or you are also welcome to make your own. Just please keep in mind that children will be present and all signs MUST be "family friendly". Also, all signs should be pro-science or anti-creationism, but not "anti-religion" or "pro-atheism" specifically. Costumes are encouraged as well!
Houston Atheists will also be holding an optional "orientation" meeting the night before the convention, on August 1st at Bayland Community Center (Annex Room) @ 8 PM. There they will be making final preparations, distributing signs and flyers, and making sure everyone is up to speed on the plans for the demonstration. Although attendance at the orientation meeting is not required to be part of the demonstration (anyone is free to join at any time on Saturday!), attendance is encouraged.
