Abstract of "A Radical View ...
" Should all religious symbols and language be barred
from public spaces? Where do you draw the line between church and state?
Tom Flynn offers a personal argument why secularists should dream big and
strive for a tomorrow where public spaces truly are "religion-free zones" -
and why America's future may depend on realizing such a social arrangement,
sooner rather than later. Agree or disagree, you won't want to miss this
engaging and provocative illustrated presentation.
"Dispiriting Commentary" Do secular humanists undermine their position when
they use spiritual language? In a short illustrated presentation, Flynn
argues that the answer is yes. Those who believe in life without the
supernatural make their stance unclear, even confusing, when they wield
words like "spirit" and "spiritual." Presentation includes a handy list of
95 synonyms useful for not talking about "spirit" but instead saying what we
really mean.
