Hello San Diego community!

Join us this year for a wonderful secular holiday event! We will be celebrating the Day of the Dead, a great festival in which we honor our deceased loved ones. As secularists, atheists, and humanists, there are few holidays that are religion free. Día de los Muertos, is a day that we as non-theists can take time to honor the deceased without the notion of a religious afterlife: instead, we celebrate life before death. We remind ourselves that instead of dwelling in the sadness of death, we can be grateful for what they left behind for us to pass on. Join us for food, drinks, a kids piñata, face painting, and raffles!

$4/person or $10/family.

Some of the traditions that we will be celebrating include:
- Skeleton face painting for kids and adults! (Traditionally, you paint half of your face as a skeleton.)

-Piñata for kids.
-Wearing jewelry from the departed loved one. For example, each year I wear my grandmother's rings and necklace.
-Feel free to participate by bringing in a frames photo of a deceased loved one. We will have a decorated table at the event honoring loved ones.

If anyone would like to give a 5 minute speech on the person they are honoring, please contact me at [masked] I would love to add you to the list! We would also love the extra help: please contact me if you would like to volunteer in any way!

What a blast! I had such a great time. I'm already looking forward to next year.

Thank you for your comments. If you'd like to see more of something, or less of something, or if you have an idea of what we can add next year... let us know. We will definitely do this event again.

Potlucks are always fun, with people encouraged to bring a special family recipe dish (or something out of the ordinary). I'd also like to have a longer event as our numbers grow!

I'm bringing my husband and daughter. Is there anything in particular that you need help with?

I'm going to forward your name to Victoria, the lead organizer. Thanks for offering to help. We'll try to put you to work!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
