Dear PAHMsters,

The Portland Area Humanism Meetup is going to strive to start having
at least one event each week, in the evenings, to help build the PAHM
community. But in the mean time, please be aware of some resources
that have been present all along for us, and are now back on our
calendar as "Notes", rather than official meetups.

I'm talking about the meetings that our sponsor, HGP (Humanists of
Greater Portland) holds at Friendly House (NW 26th and Thurman) EVERY
SUNDAY MORNING from 10 to 11:30AM. These are free and open, and that
means that YOU are invited! In addition to an often very interesting
SPEAKER, they have DISCUSSION GROUPS, and if you want to attend
either one and you have kids, there's even a CHILDREN'S PROGRAM
(called Carole's Kids) that will mind the younger ones while teaching
them a few things about critical thinking, science, etc. in the
process. And again, it's all free. And if 10AM is too late for you,
you can even participate in another "Early Bird" discussion group
there which runs from 8:45 to 9:45. At about noon, there's usually a
group no-host lunch at a local restaurant.

The Children's Program is especially worth noting! It is a valuable
but underutilized resource in the Humanist community, with ample
space and materials and excellent, talented staff -- and they would
love to see YOUR kids on Sunday.

Information about these meetings, together with a calendar of the
exact program each Sunday and some videos of past programs, can be
found at

Other things worth noting:
1. This Saturday is a free drug recycling day. Go to www.dea.gov
and enter your zip for a drop-off site near you.
2. CFI Portland will host Sam Harris on Oct 21 (for free). See

3. The NW Freethought Conference in March 2011 will host PZ Meyers
(not free).
