Making the most of PAHM (Portland Area Humanism Meetup)

Hi, guys,

As Sue has explained earlier, we are following Meetup's
recommendations, and have (long ago) closed the mailing lists on PAHM
to member posting, to prevent email discussions (heated or friendly)
from overwhelming people's email boxes.* However, there are still
ways to carry on member-to-member online interactions!

The Message Boards (accessible in a link on the left margin) are open
to all members, and there are members posting there fairly
regularly. The problem: You don't really want to log into Meetup and
monitor the message boards every day just to see if there's something
new there. The solution: All members should go to the Message
Boards (e.g. now, at
http://humanism.m...) and at the top,
click the link that says "Track this message board". From that point
on, you will get at most ONE email per night, telling you when there
have been any updates to that Message Board in the previous day.

Meetup also now has a convenient "What's Happening?" home page
whenever you log in (at that informs you of things
happening in all of your meetups. That includes updates to the
Message Boards.

And if you decide that you would like to schedule a meetup, and want
to find out of others are interested, there is yet another way to do
so. On the PAHM home page (at http://humanism.m...), you
always see a large description of the next scheduled meetup, and at
the bottom of that description, if you are logged in, it asks "Have
an idea for a meetup?". Right next to it is another link describing
any ideas that have already been made. Click the first link to make
a suggestion, or the second link to see ideas made by others. (You
can also suggest a meetup by clicking the Calendar link and clicking
the "Post an idea" link at the top.)

Please feel free to become engaged in conversations on the Message
Boards, and to make suggestions for meetups. As you can see, there
is a current discussion about Avatar, and a suggestion that we have a
meetup to go see Avatar and discuss it after. Please, weigh in!

*Yes, there are ways for people to control the amount of incoming
email even with open lists, but we feel that members shouldn't have
to jump through hoops just to use Meetup for its intended purpose of
primarily facilitating face-to-face meetups.
