New Meetup: PAHM's Own Meetup! "Beyond Belief" clips/discussion

Announcing a new Meetup for Portland Area Humanism Meetup!

What: PAHM's Own Meetup! "Beyond Belief" clips/discussion

When: Thursday, May 6,[masked]:30PM to 8:30PM

Where:
Friendly House
NW 26th and Thurman
Portland, OR 97210

Most PAHM meetings lately have been in conjunction with other groups' events (e.g. HGP's Vinnie's Night, FAASHN's Friday event). This has provided ample opportunity to meet with other groups on their own turf, but it's time to have our own event!

I finally am arranging a discussion night around some video clips extracted from the Beyond Belief 2006 Conference. I've mined the video on the website (www.beyondbelief2006.org) for the meatiest tidbits, each clip about 5 minutes long, so we can view one or two, discuss those to any desired extent, and watch a few more, etc., until the time runs out. These are talks by some of the biggest names on the relationships between science, philosophy, and theology.

I think this will be a great way to get to know each other and see how we feel about some topics central to humanism and/or atheism. I suggest we first spend half hour (6:30PM to 7) for introductions and maybe some discussion of what brought us here and what we hope to get out of the group (also allowing for late arrivals). Then, we'll view and discuss the video clips until we tire (8 or 8:15), and then wrap up, probably by coming up with ideas of what to do next, to be out by 8:30.

Snacks to share are welcome, but not required. Please nothing requiring preparation or much cleanup.

The HGP library can be made available upstairs before and after, so any attendees who are HGP members can use that time to browse and check out books.
