Your attendance on a hike signifies that you have read and accept the terms of this liability waiver. By signing up for this group or event you understand that you are attending all events AT YOUR OWN RISK. Organizers and Assistant Organizers of this group are just that, we organize the events and hike together as friends. There are no leaders on these hikes, you are your own leader- This is YOUR hike and YOUR Climb!! - Trail run at Rockefeller State Preserve (8-10 miles, easy/moderate pace)Rockefeller State Park Preserve Visitor Center, Pleasantville, NY
This is a beginner-friendly trail run, we will keep an easy to moderate pace from 11-14 minutes per mile (depending on the groups preference/experience).
Depending on the group, we can shorten or lengthen the mileage. Let's assume a base mileage of 8 miles for this one with the possibility to stretch to 13 miles if desired. Feel free to modify your route and distance if you want (just bring a map!)
The trails at Rockefeller preserve are mostly old carriage roads, gravel and dirt paths with rolling hills. Please note that I'm not a guide and I sometimes make wrong turns, especially in areas like Rockefeller Preserve with many turns and connecting trails.
This is a loop run, we will start and end at the Rockefeller State Park Preserve Visitor Center, Tower Hill Rd, Pleasantville, NY 10570
There is a parking fee at the Rockefeller Preserve, I believe it is $6/per day.
Distance: Around 8-10 miles with approx. 1k overall elevation gain/loss
General route (Gaia): https://www.gaiagps.com/public/Dd5zkWBPympupl9zsUgZTGUo/
The plan (subject to change, especially if we make a wrong turn)
- From the Rockefeller State Park Preserve Visitor Center, run west on the Old Sleepy Hollow Road trail
- Head North on the Pocantico Hills trail, then loop back north and conect with Old Croton Aqueduct trail
- Loop along the Hudson via Lower and Upper trail, past Rockwood Hall
- Reconnect with Old Croton Aqueduct trail, Head South to Big Tree Loop, then Head North on Gory Brook Trail, East on Eagle Hill Trail
- Reconnect with Old Sleepy Hollow Road trail, and head east back to start
