What Is I Ching Conference Counseling (IC3)?

IC3 stands for I Ching Conference Counseling. IC3 members engage one another in stimulating and enlightening group I Ching counseling sessions - via web chat. By joining IC3, you will have the opportunity to team with other I Ching students to share readings & resources, trade experiences and receive more meaningful interpretations of personal readings. Plus, you can do it all from the comfort of your own home!

How Does IC3 Work?

1. Log onto http://gnosisarts.com.... Five or so minutes before 2:00PM on the date of the online chat meetup.

2. Scroll down to the "Join Ic3, an Online Meetup" section.

3. Click the Coffee Mug (or the "Enter My Chat Room" link). This will take you to the chat client, hosted by BraveNet (Thank you Bravenet!)

4. Choose a username, enter a brief profile description, and hit enter. That's it! You're in!

What's Involved in An IC3 Session?

1. A ideal session lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. The counselor (myself or another of my colleagues who will be in the room and waiting for all participants to arrive) will ensure that all registered members are properly logged in and conduct formal introductions once everyone is present.

2. Then the formal reading portion will begin. The counselor will ask each IC3 member to state his or her question, and derive his or her hexagram individually. (Thus, it is important that you come to your IC3 session with your I Ching book and coins, sticks, cards, notepad - and whatever else you need to cast your reading. The counselor also asks that you come to your IC3 session with your question already formulated so that the conference will move fluidly.

3. After each individual's hexagram is derived, each member will take turns re-stating his or her question and then state the hexagram received. The counselor typically asks each member what he or she thinks his or her reading means before offering more personalized, in-depth analysis.

4. Next, each of the other three members will have a chance to interject their thoughts, images, interpretations - whatever - concerning each other's hexagrams.

5. After each session member has received their reading, the counselor will give concluding remarks, and the chat session will end.

Benefits of Joining IC3:

1. You'll get to have two other participants give you feedback on your reading. This helps to enrich the interpretations and meanings you derive from your individual reading. Most I Ching scholars say that talking over your readings with others helps illuminate meanings you wouldn't otherwise see.

2. You'll have the opportunity to meet and make friends with like-minded individuals - and get to do it from the comfort and safety of your own home!

3. As there is no special physical location to meet, you can join and conduct your meetup anywhere, so long as you have access to the Internet. (I may decide to organize a physical meetup somewhere locally; that's to be determined).

I was happy to hear that Hilary came and was a big help to Claire.

What a relief! I got strong guidance on a problem that's been bothering me for a long time.

Who attended?

  • 3 attendees
    •  Though I wasn't in attendance, we had a special guest join us for today's meetup. Hilary Barrett of the UK, director of Online Clarity - an extremely learned I Ching educator and writer from OXfordshire - came to the meetup. She told me that she really enjoyed meeting Claire James, who was also in attendance. The two said they happily shared readings with one another for over an hour.
    •  What a relief! I was helped with a tough problem I've been wrestling with for a long time.
