The Inland Empire Vegan Meetup Group is a peaceful community of supporters of compassionate living. While there are various motives for choosing a vegan lifestyle, compassion is the unifying value. For instance, if you became vegan for health reasons, you could say that compassion for your body motivates you to eat a plant-based diet. Ethical vegans are primarily motivated by compassion for animals, and their desire to end the suffering of these voiceless sentient beings. Those who aspire to improve conditions on a global scale, such as environmentally-minded vegans, have a sense of compassion for the planet as a whole, and see the vegan lifestyle as a logical means to achieve sustainable living and lasting peace.
Regardless of whatever compels you personally on your journey, remember that compassion is a value we all share as vegans, and if we extend that compassion to others around us (especially those who are not vegan) we can really inspire positive change in our communities. Few of us had the opportunity to be raised vegan, which means that at some point in our lives most of us lacked the knowledge needed to drive us to commit to this compassionate lifestyle. Please keep this in mind when dealing with unpleasant interactions with our meat-eating counterparts because there was probably a time when we were once in their shoes. There isn't a more powerful means of changing minds than leading by example. Let's be the change we wish to see in the world!
