[LDN] FUTURE VISION: Rise of the Machines Part 1 – Machine Vision & AI
Details
Machine Vision, Visual Search, Automated Curation and the Smart Photo Assistant of the Future.
Our November meetup explores The Second Machine Age or 4th Industrial Revolution as some call it. Or in plain english: how autonomous machines, robotics, machine vision and artificial intelligence are revolutionising how we generate, capture, share and consume images and other visual data. In Part 1 of Rise of the Machines, we’ll look at machine vision and artificial intelligence. In Part 2 of Rise of the Machines, we’ll look at the hardware side of this revolution: (swarming) robots, drones and self-driving cars.
• Is this a dystopian future where robots steal our jobs or will we have more free-time then ever before to practice our creative endeavours?
• When intelligence takes over, what will be the role for creativity anyway?
• Will images still carry beauty or will it simply become a visual receipt of a physical action?
• And once intelligence starts to help us become better photographers, won't we all start to make the same pictures?
Keynote: Authenticity, Art & Algorithms by Eric Drass aka Shardcore
Algorithms are present in almost all of our cultural interactions. They are creating, curating and censoring our lives. Artist Eric Drass investigates how our notion of authenticity has been subverted and manipulated by the actions of automated systems. Our culture is increasingly created and experienced online, Eric will discuss his own work investigating algo-culture and guerrilla epistemology.
About shardcore
Eric Drass is an artist and curator who makes work in a range of media, from painting, to digital installation, to generative experiments which live on the net. Some of his favourite themes are identity, consciousness, the philosophical ramifications of artificial intelligence, big data and the relationship between humans and machines. Sometimes this work is political, frequently it is playful, often it is provocative or transgressive in some way. His works are frequently reported and cited online (BoingBoing, b3ta, Imperica, Computer Arts and Wikipedia etc.)
We hope to welcome you at The Photographers Gallery for our November FUTURE VISION meetup. Space is limited so please update your RVSP if your plans change!
