The original vision was to create an environmentally-sustainable community where a group of people can live and/or work together in pursuit of cooperative lifestyles, non-violent communication and the sharing of experiences. As interim organizer, I am suggesting that the members consider expanding the vision to include: (1) the broader mission of providing information and resources that help people discover the thousands of intentional communities in the US and the world; (2) to foster community, cooperation and collaboration whenever possible; and (3) to provide ant available support to individuals, organizations and communities that share this vision and mission.

I know from experience that there are hundreds, perhaps thousands of different approaches to intentional community ranging from communal lifestyles to housing coops and just about everything in between. There are many rich educational resources available that we can share among ourselves and the larger community such as the Communities Directory, Communities Magazine, books on community building, cooperative housing, conscious sustainable living, The Cocreators Handbook, DVDs on communities, etc.

After living in intentional communities for over 25 years (including Stelle, IL home to the Center for Sustainable Community and the Midwest Center for permaculture) and Rainbow Farm (the Midwest Center for the Emissaries of Divine Light), I discovered the field of Community Economic Development (CED) and obtained a Master's from Southern New Hampshire University. The field of CED includes Self-help, Empowerment and Capacity Building, and to me, those are also some of the core foundational principles of successful intentional communities.

In fact, my present projects include publishing a series of 16 stand-alone books and related seminars, webinars and workshops designed to help individuals, organizations, communities realize and actualize more of our inherent potential to address the social, economic and environmental challenges we face globally on what Bucky referred to as SpaceShip earth. Through the cause-oriented company I cofounded in San Diego County, Ultimate Destiny Network,  and the affiliated non-profit Ultimate Destiny University for Successful Living, we share a vision of helping Expand the Circle of Success. We refer to the mission as seeking to help individuals and communities A.R.K. -- Awaken to our true identity as spiritual beings having a spiritual experience, temporarily in a human body; Realize more of their inherent creative power; and Know how to discover and create their ultimate destiny (whatever that means to each individual).

I share this background with you partly to introduce my life-long interest in community and my present vision of helping build bridges between mainstream communities and intentional communities which have served as research and development centers for the larger society. I have also shared some of the details of the programs, products and organizations our team could make available to help provide jobs and income for community residents.  Thank you for taking tome to read this. If you resonate at all with any of this, please do join the Meet Up Group and enjoy living in a community minded and open-hearted intentional community that honors and respects the diversity in community as in our brothers and sisters.
