Appropriate IT has an open position for a part-time Business Development Manager based in DC. It is a virtual office with flexible work hours. We hope that you or somebody you know may be interested in taking on an exciting new challenge and are passionate about sales.
Appropriate IT (AI) is a social enterprise startup with a mission to harness the power of information age to advance social justice, equitable access, and inclusive international development. AI does this by way of two different program areas providing related services: 1) An Innovation Lab that creates cutting-edge technology solutions and 2) A Development Academy that provides training in current and cutting-edge technology.
The Innovation Lab’s goal is to serve as the research & development (R&D) lab for the NGO sector in the search for pioneering technology solutions that have the potential to solve long-standing social issues. AI’s Innovation
Lab is equipped with the expertise and resources to explore emerging technologies, pilot innovative solutions, scale successful technologies, and establish collaborative ventures.
AI’s current projects include: 1. A Citizen Engagement Platform that fights corruption, being pilot tested in Uganda 2. Inauguration of the first physical center for a Software Development Academy in India, in August 2014 and 3. The Fine Print
Appropriate IT’s Innovation Lab is an exciting but risky experiment. It has all the hallmarks of a Silicon Valley startup – cutting-edge technology, lots (and lots and lots) of hard work, launching products & solutions at rapid pace, and juggling entirely too many projects & tasks. However, there is no financial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The Innovation Lab is not aspiring for a major buyout (no instagram in our future) or public listing (no facebook either). We aim to be profitable and sustainable, both of which we will figure out as we go. However, there is something more fulfilling than a pot of gold. Imagine
cutting-edge technologies like wearable computing, internet of things, big data, and embedded devices serving humanity. Our payout is in the form of improving lives of those whom our products and solutions will directly impact – we plan to do that in massive scale across many countries and regions around the world.
To borrow from Ray Bradbury, we will be jumping off the cliff and building our wings on the way down. If that excites you, then do get in touch.
