Networking for introverts – sound a bit like a pool party for people who can’t stand water?
There is no lack of networking tips for introverts, and sometimes introverts are simply belittled as shy people who just need some expert advice (usually from extroverts) on how to do things properly (i.e. pretend to be extrovert). However extroversion or introversion are neither good nor bad, they are simply expressions of different personality types. In fact, success in any team or organisation thrives on the contributions from a healthy mix of all these personality types.
If you are an introvert you probably agree that the protocol of classic networking events tends to cater for those chatty ever mingling extrovert folks, hovering like bees from one flower to the next and rattling off their 10 second pitches. If you don’t “work the room” you are made to feel like you aren’t successful. Nevertheless many introverts reluctantly put on their “socializing hat” and drag themselves to networking events, hoping to find that elusive needle in a haystack quality connection.
What if there was a different way of meeting other like minded professionals, in an environment where you can genuinely be yourself and contribute your expertise. Whether you are in business for yourself or on a corporate career path, you may benefit from the synergies of a network. You may be 100% passionate about your job or business, but if you try to do everything by yourself, you may end up wasting time, energy and money while ignoring the reality of the market place. Consider this: one question, asked to the right audience with the right expertise, could help you find a solution, point you in the right direction for getting further information or help you avoiding a costly mistake. Running your idea by a group of professionals (rather than just discussing it with your best friends) can give you the feedback needed to get on track to make it work.
The aim of this meetup group is to create a supportive professional network where you can - share business and marketing ideas - talk about your passion and expertise subjects - practise public speaking (if you wish) - get feedback in group reviews on a topic of your choice - swap advice, book tips, materials etc. - work together where there is an opportunity and/or find referral partners Come and join us for inspiration, learning, purposeful exercises, constructive feedback, brainstorming etc. You are certainly encouraged to bring your business cards and exchange them, but the events will be themed and structured so that you won’t have to endure lots of small talk I will create a syllabus ahead of the meetings that will be sent out to everyone – and your contribution will be appreciated, to ensure this group delivers what you would like to experience. I am open to your suggestions and feedback, and look forward to getting to know you and your unique talents.
