My comment at the meeting about Pachube's internet time was incorrect - it was my PC as the Firewall (McAfee) was preventing NTP and Windows was saying that time syncs were OK. Sorry @bjpirt.

Unfortunitly the original venue was something of let down, and I was left some what lost until I found a couple of people who looked equally lost and managed to follow the twitter trail, to Alex's emergency meet up place. However this did force me to actually introduce myself to some people, which in turn helped the after meet drink in the pub across the road.
The talks were for obvious reasons improvised, but it was fasinating to hear about the Geiger Map, and the issues around non govenment monitoring. The smelly robot was fun.
Dispite the venue limitations, for me it was definitly worth it...

The meetup itself was interesting, but the organisation was somewhat... well - disorganised...The original venue was so overcrowded it was hardly possible to move, so at some stage it was decided that they'll move the meetup to someone's office. I just overheard someone talking about this, but could not hear any announcement, so I decided to squeeze myself down and outside, where a bunch of people stood waiting. Assuming this was the meetup gang, I followed them, and someone standing on a corner pointing one way confirmed this when asked.
Tip for next time: Put up a notice on the door of the abandoned venue to there is no doubt and so that people arriving late won't be left stranded.

A bit chaotic but interesting talks once things got moving.

Another cracking event - not worried about the venue

Chaotic but nonetheless very inspiring evening. Thanks to the organisers!

We might be able to help out with a venue based in the TEA building for one of the next meetups.

We're speaking to the Citizen Cyberscience Summit people, so will confirm next week

Good to hear UCL will be hosting the meetup next time. Which specific venue have you booked? Let me know if you need any help with that. I organised FABRICATE conference @ The Bartlett last April with 300+ attendees so I have some experience with this.

We didn't publically broadcast the new venue as it was a private office - but did try to contact people asking via Twitter to DM details. I know Alex and Ed are really apologetic about the way things went but I thought they hacked a good alternative under the circumstances!

Good meeting; unfortunate that turnout was so big, AND the original venue was much busier (with non-IOT people) than expected, forcing a spur of the moment move. Since we couldn't (for privacy/security reasons) publicise the new venue this was hard on the latecomers. Next meeting should be easier logistically, hopefully some more interesting hacks to share

Venue issues made it less than ideal but still a good event - some great talks.

Again, apologies for this, this was the first time so many people turned up and several other options were explored but no responses / not available. As UCL are hosting us next time it shouldn't be a problem, but if you have contacts for venues of 150 up please get in touch!

Really interesting talks - I thought Haiyan's Geiger Map project was especially inspiring. Grateful to Alex for allowing the use of her office when it was clear that the pub wasn't going to be suitable.

We got confused as well. Turned up at the packed venue, didn't find anyone. Waited a bit around the hood checking for comments on the meetup page regarding new venue and then gave up... Did you guys go somewhere else in the end? If so, why didn't you let everyone else know? Mistakes can surely happen so no hard feelings here, but it would be nice to have a proper venue next time.

3 good talks BUT no one had given any thought to venue. This is inexcusable.

I turned up but had no idea what was going on. One person I asked told me it had moved upstairs. Upstairs, someone else told me it had moved down the street. Impossible to find out where. (I didn't have a twitter connection on me and was asking someone by phone to look on the web. Was there any reason to keep new venue secret?)

Please not in a pub! Not everyone drinks... and for any meaningful communication to take place, somewhere reasonably quiet.

Hello all! So sorry about the venue issue! We'll find ourselves a host for more than 80 next time...

We've moved elsewhere - follow me on twitter and I can DM address about 3 min walk from reliance

Have you abandoned the meeting or gone somewhere else?

Sorry but this was a really dumb place to have a talk. Barely enough room to move let alone hold a proper conversation. What a pity - I really enjoy this group. Perhaps hold it where you did in December. I just walked out.

I can't make it tonight. I'm hoping to come along to the next one. I did just support Olly the Smelly Robot on Kickstarter so a shame to miss the talk :(

Won't be in today as well. Richard, see you next time.

Plsd to see Things are so popular. Having enjoyed the last event, and needing to travel into London especially for this one, I am happy to let someone else have my place this time. I'll watch out for the tweets and vids. (RSVP reset)

    Hello all,
We have a 30-40% drop-off rate usually. I'll shop some other venues around, but this is a nice place.

    January 18, 2012

  • Ronny A.

Ken, normally not all the people signing up will actually attend. Not sure about the average percentage - anyone?

    January 18, 2012

143 attending a venue with an 80 fire limit?? Time to rethink the venue??

    January 17, 2012

  • Alexandra D.

Sorry about that Maria, we're not streaming the events.
