What we’re about
This is a Meetup group for everyone interested in Irish dancing in the San Francisco Bay Area. If you are not yet a dancer but are curious, join this group for the easiest way to get started! If you are already a dancer, you should join this group to get updates on upcoming events and stay in touch with other dancers.
Set dancing is fun and easy to learn; this is not the performance style dancing you may have seen on "Riverdance." It is a social form of folk dancing that is very beginner friendly, but is also engaging enough to appeal to experienced dancers. So whether you are an experienced dancer looking to try something new, or an absolute beginner who wants to give dancing a try, this group may be for you.
The dances are taught by well-known instructor Michael Murphy, whose teaching is welcoming, inclusive and entertaining. No partner is required -- you will find one there! We recommend low-heeled, comfortable shoes.
If you would like to see what set dancing looks like, here are a few examples:

It may look complicated if you have never done it before, but the moves and patterns become easy to do with a bit of instruction.
