Ciao! My name is Todd Stone and I am very excited to be the new organizer of this 300+ person group ? we got 2 new members in the past 2 days! Benvenuto a voui! I give a big thank you to Al who has been the leader ever since I have been a member, which has been for a little under a year. And thanks to Phyllis as well.
While I am not Italian, I love the language and I am always looking for others to speak Italian with. Of course, it?s always nice to speak with native speakers, so I will try my best to get a native speaker to attend each event. I would say I am a conversant speaker. I studied Italian in college and I spent a semester speaking Italian in Bologna.
Bizarrely, I have never attended an Italian Chat meet-up group activity. I assume that, like many of you, I meant to go several times, but then something else came up and I couldn?t make it. I did try to meet once at the Citigroup building in mid-town. When I got there, I found a Chinese language group and some people knitting, but no Italian conversation group! So, in organizing future events, I will always include a telephone number/contact number at the venue to make it easier to find the group. As before, the mission of the group remains the same: to meet others who enjoy speaking Italian. Events will be inexpensive, although I will try to have us meet at some restaurants for vino o acqua e antipasti.
Finally, one thing I found a little irritating about the old way of communicating was that any member of the group could email everyone (all 300+ members), sometimes clogging people?s inboxes with emails that didn?t pertain to them. So, I have changed the email system so that all responses to group invitations will come directly to me. If a member has an event he or she would like to share with the whole group, I will certainly pass that along, but emails like, ?That place is too far for me? or ?I?m a vegetarian? will only be seen by me. All RSVPs / comments will go to [address removed] , which I just created. Please don?t hesitate to email me. I will try my best to respond to emails in a timely manner, but like all of us, I have a pretty busy schedule ? I work as a comedian (o comico) and a journalist (o giornalista). I look forward to meeting you all in 2009, and in January I will notify you of our first event! Buon Anno!
Todd (o Taddeo in Italiano)
